KILN, MS (WLOX) -
Hancock quarterback Chase Fagan is listed at 5-10, 165 pounds. The shifty signal caller has been dialing up all the right plays, using his feet to avoid would be tacklers, able to scramble free and find receivers or explode down the sidelines for touchdowns.
In Friday's 37-35 win over Hattiesburg, Fagan rushed for 152 yards and bagged 3 touchdowns. He added 197 yards passing and came up with the Friday Night Football Showdown Play of the Night, somehow getting off this pass to keep a drive alive, connecting with Preston Willoz.
Fagan said, "I ran out field and I had to get away, I had to get rid of it. I don't know. Preston Willoz happen to be there and catch it."
Based on his performance in beating Hattiesburg, a team that was unbeaten in Region 4-6A play prior to Friday's loss to Hancock.....Chase Fagan is the Mississippi Power Player of the Week. He credits his teammates for the Hawks success.
"We're just coming together as a team. Our defense has played great in the last two games and kept us in the game and had a couple of turnovers, "stated Fagan.
Rocky Gaudin said, "He can make any throw. He can get rid of the ball. He can make the quick throw and everybody knows what he is doing, breaking away from the rush and finding open receivers, somewhat like on the fly."
On the season Fagan has completed nearly 60 percent of his pass attempts for 2, 224 yards, 20 touchdowns and only two interceptions. He's added a thousand-three yards rushing, cracking the goal line with 13 touchdowns.
Hancock (5-4, 2-3) remains in the hunt for one of four playoff slots in the Region 4-6A ranks with two regular season games remaining. The Hawks travel to Biloxi Friday night and entertain Harrison Central on November 7.
