Chief: Waveland residents may hear gunfire Halloween night

WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) -

If you hear gunfire in Waveland Halloween night, don't be alarmed. It may just be a military exercise.

Waveland Police Chief David Allen said Tuesday that his department will be assisting the military with an offshore exercise that night. Starting around 11pm, Waveland residents can expect to hear the sound of loud gunfire emanating from several boats in the gulf, just south of Waveland. The exercise is only expected to last a short time.

It's part of the large scale exercise called "Southern Strike" taking place all across South Mississippi during the next two weeks.
