JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Sunday was a fun day for folks in Jackson County as they enjoyed the last day of the annual fair. For nearly a century, the carnival rides, petting zoos and much more have entertained people of all ages.

"It is a lot of fun. I enjoy meeting people I have known for years and bringing my family to ride the rides," said Chris Mincey.

"I love the fair, and I have lived in the area most of my life. I have come since I was a little girl. The fair is great, and you are always looking for the things you rode and did when you were a little girl," Kathy Mincey said.

Fair association President Eddie Russell said 2014 has been one of the best years ever for attendance.

"Tens of thousands of people. It has been packed," Russell said.

Around 60 to 70 food vendors also participated this year.

"We had a waiting list," Russell said.

Terry Welch, from BBQ World, said he is not surprised so many businesses wanted to be part of the event.

"At the Jackson County Fair, people come out for the food here. You have all these church booths and all these independents,” said Welch. “They got all the gumbos and the fried shrimp you name it, and the big sausages."

Welch said sales for this week were awesome.

"We had people come by here that never been exposed to us. They will take our literature. They will call us for a catering job later on. It definitely puts your name out," said Welch.

Fair organizers and vendors said they can't wait to provide the food and fun again next year.
