BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Halloween is less than a week away, which made for a busy day at a local costume store. It's the one night a year people can parade around, dressed up as anything they want to be and get candy while doing it.
"This year, we are Doc McStuffins, Batman, Harley Quinn and I don't know. They are kind of mix matching a couple of things," said a mother of five children.
Other ideas tossed around from customers who talked to WLOX were scary clown, a skeleton, a witch and Pikachu.
Whether you choose a creepy, ghoulish costume or a sweet, innocent one, Spirit Halloween employees say there is always a bestselling costume.
"Definitely anything Frozen and Ninja Turtles. Those are the two things that it doesn't matter if you're a boy, girl, adult, kid, you can't go wrong," said Curyn Templeton.
Templeton says they have already sold out of the Queen Elsa costume four times, and they probably won't get another shipment before Halloween.
"Every little girl that gets upset that we don't have a costume, we're like, 'Well, there are going to be so many Elsa's. Why don't you try to be this?' You know, it's really hard trying to please everybody," said Templeton.
Halloween can get expensive. It's not just the creepy animatronics that come with hefty price tags.
"I wouldn't say it's a waste of money, because they enjoy doing it every year. It's just a way instead of going to spend money at a restaurant or an event, this is the way they want to spend their money," said one customer.
Not everyone feels bad about splurging on a costume once a year.
"You keep it, and you can wear it not this year, but skip a year, and then the next year, wear it," said a Spirit Halloween patron.
Spirit Halloween is considered a pop-up Halloween shop. They are only open for about two months out of the year.
