Sheriff: Human trafficking suspect captured with the help of K9 units

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A Gulfport man is behind bars, charged with human trafficking. That is according to Harrison County Sheriff Melvin Brisolara.

Harrison County Deputies say they spotted Maxwell Isley Phillips, 27, walking along 33rd Street in Gulfport on Friday. Brisolara said deputies recognized him because he has been under investigation for two months for promoting underage prostitution.

Officials tell us Phillips was on the sheriff's department's most wanted list.

When deputies tried to stop Phillips, Brisolara said he ran but was captured in the woods a short time later with the help of K9 units.

Authorities aren't releasing many details about the investigation at this time, but they do tell us the child in question has been put into the custody of the State of California.

Phillips is in the Harrison County Jail under a $100,000 bond.
