LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - The Mississippi Affordable Wind Insurance Coalition is taking a step that could ultimately lower windstorm rates along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The group will hold a Legislative Forum Thursday evening in hopes to pass a Clarity Bill. Clarity Bills require insurance companies to report premiums and claims paid by zip code. Alabama and Louisiana have recently passed similar bills.
According to the group, data from the bill passed in Alabama has shown that coastal counties actually have had a lower loss-per-policy than other areas of the state. This means that coastal residents are being over charged and there is no justification to back it up.
The open forum will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Thursday, October 23 at St. Thomas Catholic Church.
Legislators and Public officials will be present to answer questions concerning the Clarity Bill and current windstorm rates.
