MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - Officials with the Moss Point Police Department want those who owe fines to pay up.
Interim Police Chief Art McClung says more than $2 million in fines are owed to the city.
The Moss Point Board of Aldermen has voted to hire American Municipal Services to collect the money. The collections will start the first week in November.
McClung says a lot of the unpaid fines date back to the 1980s, and they include traffic tickets as well as misdemeanors.
"It is important that these fines are paid so the city can go on, and that is a lot of money for any municipality to be missing or people not paying," McClung said. "I am asking that if you know you have a warrant, or you know you owe the City of Moss Point, please get in contact with us. We are willing to work with you. We are not just about putting people in jail."
If you owe a fine to the city, please call Moss Point Police at 2284751711.
