Southern Miss on the verge of getting to .500

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -  Southern Miss has a chance to break even with a win over Louisiana Tech.  The Golden Eagles (3-4, 1-2 C-USA) are coming off a 30-20 win at North Texas. Louisiana Tech (4-3, 3-0 C-USA) defeated UTSA 27-20.

Southern Miss sophomore quarterback Nick Mullens completed 37 of 41 pass attempts in the win over North Texas for 305 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.  He has now thrown for over 200 yards for the ninth consecutive game and the 12th time in his career and went over 300 yards for the second straight game.

Senior Corey Acosta drilled all three field goal attempts against the Mean Green. He has successfully kicked 14 field goals on the season and six in a row, helping the Golden Eagles win their first road game of the season.

Junior running back Jalen Richard returned to the Golden Eagles lineup for the first time since the season opener at Mississippi State. Richard hauled in 8 passes for 71 yards.

Junior transfer Casey Martin has become the favorite target of Southern Miss quarterback Nick Mullens with 37 receptions. Junior transfer receiver Michael Thomas grabbed a 40-yard touchdown pass at North Texas.  That's his third consecutive game with a touchdown reception.

Southern Miss is still in the running for post-season play with five games remaining.  Following the Louisiana Tech , the Golden Eagles travel to UTEP on November 1, entertain undefeated Marshall November 8, at UTSA on November 13 and close out regular season play in Hattiesburg against UAB.

Coach Todd Monken has his Golden Eagles improving each and every week and he and his players want to achieve a bowl game this season.  It can happen.
