GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Ladies lingerie lined a section of beach in Gulfport Friday. More than 90 brand new bras were hooked-up and stretched out on the concrete pathway near Broad Avenue.

The Boyington Nursing Facility in Gulfport sponsored this first Bras on Broad event to raise awareness about breast cancer. Supporters stood for a couple of hours to rally support. All the bras will be donated to the Gulf Coast Women's Center for Non-Violence.

"Breast cancer awareness. We want to collect bras and the non-violence for women's shelter. They have women that come in all the time, and this may be something that they need," Leslie Bucklar said.

October is also National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Boyington started collecting the bras about a month ago. The company also hosted a lunch for all the participants.

Supporters say their motto is "one month, two causes, same purpose… to survive."
