Deadline Looming To Ship Holiday Packages By UPS

Santa isn't the only one who will be making special deliveries this Christmas.

The United Parcel Service is also delivering Christmas gifts to people across the nation this holiday season. Christmas day is still two weeks away, but the deadline for mailing holiday gifts through the United Parcel Service is fast approaching.

For more than 50 years, Ada Toler has shipped Christmas gifts to her loved ones.

"My family's all over the place, all over the United States," Toler said.

Since she can't personally deliver gifts to her loved ones who live out of town, she tries to make sure the presents arrive before the holiday.

That's why she ships the gifts a fews weeks before Christmas.

UPS workers say this is a good strategy for making sure your shipped gifts make it to their destination in time.

"This is considered peak week, beginning Monday," said United Parcel Service store worker Gloria Turner.

"We've already been slammed with business which is great, but people are thinking early. That's a good thing. The beginning of the week would by far be best. As you get toward the end of the week, and next Monday, we would have to be thinking about going air," she added.

UPS workers expect these lines to grow longer, especially as the deadline for mailing Christmas gifts draws closer.

"I'd say there's a Wednesday deadline for most ground shipments, which is your more economical way to go.  After that, you'd be looking at the three day or second day air,"  Taylor said.

As for Ada Toler, she says her method of early shipping works, and that's easy to tell from the tokens of appreciation that are sent to her as the holiday season comes to a close.

"I usually get good thank you notes," Toler said.

There are now three UPS stores here on the coast.

They're located in Ocean Springs, Biloxi, and Pascagoula.

Store hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
