HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The classic car cruisers may be gone, but the motorcycle riders are now rolling into town. Organizers are expecting more than 1,000 motorcycles for the Gold Wing district rally which begins on Thursday.

They are big toys for grown-up boys. Gold Wing motorcycles appeal to a certain demographic.

"They consider us old people, but we're not. We're young just like everybody else. We just ride the bigger bikes," said Bobby Bryant, with the Gold Wing Riders Association.

"It's a 2001 Honda Gold Wing. I picked it up about a year or so ago with the trailer. I've been loving it ever since," said K.Z. Kleinheitz.

Along with the bright yellow color, his tiny Corvette trailer certainly attracts attention.

The Biloxi man has ridden his Gold Wings in all 50 states, along with Europe and Canada, and he's looking forward to this week's rally.

"The camaraderie, getting together with other people. Getting to spend time with people you haven't seen in a while," said Kleinheitz.

Vendors are taking over the parking lot of the Courtyard Marriott this day before the rally kicks off.

"We sell chrome accessories, rain gear," said vendor, Rich Macedo.

It's his final show of the year, and he's expecting some traffic from the Gold Wing crowd.

"Weather is going to be good, and who knows what we're going to end up with as far as crowd wise and that. They say they're up from last year, so we'll just keep our fingers crossed," Macedo said.

The Gold Wing riders say they enjoy the camaraderie of getting together, sharing stories about the road and admiring each other's motorcycles.

"What I enjoy about my Gold Wing, it's the Cadillac of the Cadillacs. I put 32,000 on it this year, and I'm still riding it. I'd rather ride my bike than ride in a car," said Bryant.

Be sure to watch out for these visiting bikers. They'd love to meet you, but not by trading paint on the roadway.

"We're watching for you. Please watch for us," said Kleinheitz.

One highlight of the rally will be a lighted parade of Gold Wing motorcycles on Thursday night.
