Grand Theatre Opens To Rave Reviews

Movie fans are giving South Mississippi's newest movie theatre rave reviews.

The 14 screen "Grand Theatre" held its grand opening Friday in D'Iberville. The 24 hundred seat cinema is the latest project in an ongoing business boom.

"Beautiful day for a grand opening," said Bill Gillies of D'Iberville as he waited in line for movie tickets.

Gillies was among the first fans in line. He lives nearby and never would have imagined a complex like this when he moved here nearly 30 years ago.

"When I moved out here just a mile up the road, I was out in the country. Now, we're in the city," said Gillies.

Many customers praise the convenience of this "big city cinema". Jeanette Cook says taking her kids to the movies just got a lot easier.

"Because we used to drive to the Imperial Palace or to Gulfport to watch movies. But this one's right around the corner. Our house is right here," Cook said.

Convenience also attracted Alicia and Tommy Sessum to grand opening day. They enjoyed an afternoon date while their son was at day care.

"We're very glad. Definitely more convenient. And it's not as crowded as Crossroads when you head over there and try to find parking," they explained.

The Grand Theatre opening is just the latest development in an ongoing commercial business boom in D'Iberville. The spot off the interstate was woods just a few years ago. It now includes an expanding shopping center, a Super Wal Mart, restaurants, hotels and specialty stores.

The Grand Theatre is part of the Lakeview Village shopping complex. Coast cardiologist, Dr. Bahrat Sangani, heads the real estate company responsible for that commercial development.
