GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Next year's Crusin' the Coast is already moving at full speed and 2015 isn't even here yet. A thousand people have already pre-registered to be part of next year's party.
The 2015 Crusin' the Coast pre-registration lines were long Sunday morning. Car lovers from California to right here in South Mississippi made their way to the Cruise Central site early to secure a spot for next year's festivities.
"One reason is I didn't want to forget. Another reason is if there is a cut off, I will be under the wire," one car lover said.
"I enjoyed myself. The reason I am going is you get a free t-shirt," another participant said.
This is the 16th time one Louisiana couple has participated in the popular classic car event, and they don't plan to miss it next year.
"Because it is a lot of fun and it you can see every kind of make and style of car that was ever made," Brenda Doran said.
The event chairman said he's excited but not surprised that so many cruisers are committing to come to showcase their rides on the Gulf Coast.
"It makes it easier. Some people have been here from the very first year when we had 333 registered cars, so they know they are going to come back next year. It is always around the Columbus Day weekend, so they just plan it in their calendar," Chairman Chevis Swetman said.
As the crowd continues to increase, more entertainment and designated stops along the coast are being added for thousands of cruisers to enjoy.
"Right now, 7,293 is our record number. We want to build on that each year. This year we have expanded the venue. We brought in Pascagoula and we are trying to spread it out geographically and get more people on the road. Traffic was better this year."
That sounds good to David Dedeaux. The car enthusiast is ready ride his Mustang on the coast next year.
Those who registered early received a free Crusin' Shirt. They are also eligible for a $500 drawing. The last day for pre-registration is August 15, 2015.
