BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX)

After some significant construction delays, the Bay High School stadium is finally ready for use. The new football field made its debut to the public Friday night during the Bay High Tiger's first home game.

That's where cross-town rivals Bay High and the St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws met. WLOX NEWS got reaction to the new field from the students before they used it.

The grass that once made up the Bay High Tigers football field was plowed up and replaced with a colorful artificial turf. The field now has a new look and a new feel.

"I love it, absolutely. There's is nothing better than going to play on it every day. We're blessed to have it. It's much needed," said Bay High Tiger Austin Wilkinson.

It was badly needed because Mother Nature often stood in the way of Tiger practices and games on the old field.

"With a lot of rainy weather, the field conditions were just sometimes horrible, depending on the amount of rain we received. Sometimes we'd have to cancel practices," explained Bay High School Athletics Director Will Seymour.

The school's soccer teams used the field to practice Friday morning, but the varsity football team claimed the field Friday night when it battled it out with cross-town rival St. Stanislaus in their first home game on the field.

"It feels like walking on clouds. It's beautiful and playing on it and everything.

It's quick, soft and perfect," said football player Skylar Bush.

"The way they manufacture it now, it's almost like walking in your front yard. The grassy feel is amazing," echoed Seymour.

Those who turned out for the big game sat on new bleachers and noticed a few other new additions.

"What a game to open up the new field with," Seymour said.
