BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Coast Coliseum's annual Swap Meet is having its best year yet. Thursday's opening attendance drew 7,300 people, and it doesn't look like it's slowing down.
This year's swap meet features more than 250 vendors from 40 plus states. That's the most it has ever had.
The variety of items is even wider, including fully constructed engines for sale, specialized engine parts, vintage electronics, interior sections, cleaning supplies and maintenance items. That's just for the cars.
For people who drive them, there are fuzzy hats, T-shirts, cool sunglasses, rustic artwork, plenty of food and girls on stilts. Peter Harris, who has been site manager for 16 years, estimates that the meet will attract up to 25,000 people, and that's got him in high gear.
“It is really nice to be able to have a plan come together,” Harris said. “The swap meet has gotten bigger and badder and meaner and neater than ever before.”
The event lasted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
