Friday Night Football Showdown: Week 8

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Defending Class 5A State Champion Picayune, ranked No. 1 in the Mississippi Associated Press Class 5A State Poll, entertains Pascagoula in a Region 4-5A showdown.  The Maroon Tide (5-0, 2-0) rely on a solid running game led by Kardarius Cross.  Picayune will be challenged by a very good Panthers (4-2, 2-0) defense, led by senior defensive tackle Jauan Collins and senior defensive end Keith Joseph, Junior.

The Pascagoula-Picayune clash will be one of six games featured on the Friday Night Football Showdown beginning at 10:15 on WLOX, followed by the Post Game Show on wlox.com at 10:35.

The Stone Tomcats (4-2, 2-0) share the Region 4-5A lead with Picayune and Pascagoula.  The Tomcats have become prime time contenders and travel to Long Beach (0-5, 0-2) tonight.

Another team in the running for a playoffs slot in the Region 4-5A ranks is George County (4-2, 1-1). The Rebels are on the road at West Harrison (0-6, 0-2).

Undefeated Ocean Springs (6-0, 2-0) sits atop the Region 4-6A standings tied with Gulfport and Hattiesburg.  The Greyhounds under coach Ryan Ross hope to continue their winning ways at Biloxi.  The Indians (3-3, 0-2) love to throw the football under the direction of head coach John Shannon.  Biloxi has the offense to pull off an upset, it's up the Indians defense to stand tall.

Gulfport (4-3, 2-0) is on the road in the Kiln, a date with Hancock (3-3, 0-2).  Two weeks ago the Hawks nearly beat Ocean Springs and lost 23-22 after missing on a two-point conversion near the end of the game.  The Admirals defense must contain Hawks shifty quarterback Chase Fagan who is a threat running or throwing the football.  The Admirals offense is led by senior quarterback Richaud Floyd and game breaking receivers Jonathan Nance and J.J. Smith.

St. Stanislaus (6-0, 1-0) and Bay High (3-3, 1-0) renew their rivalry on the Tigers home turf.  The Rockachaws ranked No. 1 in the Class 4A State ranks rely heavily on sophomore quarterback Myles Brennan.  He's the nation's 4th leading receiver and has thrown 22 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. Both teams opened Region 8-4A play with wins last week.  St. Stanislaus out slugged Vancleave 60-34 and Bay High beat Pass Christian 24-13.

Tyler Bouldin and I will have the Friday Night Football Showdown at 10:15 on WLOX.  We will follow that with the Friday Night Football Showdown Post Game Show on wlox.com at 10:35.
