OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - An Ocean Springs School District bus driver is now facing an additional 31 counts of touching a child for lustful purposes.
As we first reported Thursday, Ocean Springs Police said Sergio Ardo Sandoval, 64, was arrested on Oct. 7, after a parent filed a police report against Sandoval after their child told them the driver touched them on their "private area."
Ocean Springs Police Detective Capt. William Jackson told WLOX News after further investigation, detectives have revealed that additional counts are warranted against Sandoval. Sandoval now faces 32 counts of touching a child for lustful purposes.
"We are continuing to cooperate with Ocean Springs Police Department in this ongoing investigation," said Ocean Springs School District Superintendent Dr. Bonita Coleman-Potter Friday afternoon.
Dr. Coleman-Potter said district officials reviewed the video from the bus as soon as they were aware of the allegations earlier this week.
"I saw a clear infraction of school board policy," said Coleman-Potter. "At that point, I terminated him (Sandoval) from his position."
Coleman-Potter said Sandoval has worked for the school district since 2006. She also said the school district ran a background check on Sandoval before he was hired and it was clean.
Judge Matthew Mestayer has set Sandoval's bond at $10,000.00 per count for a total of $320,000. We're told Sandoval's preliminary hearing is set for October 15th.
Police say this case is still ongoing. If you have any information, you're asked to contact the Ocean Springs Police Department at 228-875-2211 or CrimeStoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
