Biloxi Block Party attracts huge crowds

Thousands of classic cars and car lovers converged on downtown Biloxi on Wednesday. The annual Biloxi Block Party has become one of the most popular venues on the Cruisin' schedule.

The block party attracts quite the crowd. Classic cars lined Lameuse Street and filled every nearby lot. With eyes on the engine, Mike Ramsey's '69 Camaro seemed to be staring back at the crowd.

“I built the car myself, and made it a pro street car about 20 years ago, and then I put the blower motor in it about 10 years ago. That's what I really enjoy is the blower motor. It gets a lot of looks. A real healthy car,” said Ramsey, from Spring, TX.

It's the picture perfect paint job that attracts eyes to Janet Henderson's car. It is a deep candy apple red.

“I built this car for my wife about five years ago. It's a '72 Chevelle Super Sport. We built it as a driver car. It's got the candy apple red paint. It gets a lot of attention everywhere it goes,” said Robert Henderson, who is from Bowling Green, KY.

It's hard to believe Cruisin' the Coast has been around for nearly two decades. Gulfport's Roy Talbot has been to all 18 events.

“It's unbelievable. This year, there's more cars here than I've ever seen,” said Talbot.

That is including his antique Chevy.

“It's a '37 Chevy coupe. It's got a Mustang front end, Chevy rear end. 350 Chevy engine. Heat, air. It's got everything,” Talbot explained.

He used to own the blue classic car parked alongside his black Chevy.

“My wife bought it from him. It's a '41 Ford with a 400 Chevy engine in it, and it was just recently repainted and redone,” said Alabama's Bob Solomon.

There's a story behind every one of these vintage vehicles. That's what shines through even more than the chrome and custom paint jobs. It's all about the people.

“Real friendly event, lots of stuff to do. It's on Highway 90 on the Coast, and you've got five different places you can go,” said Ramsey.

Among those places: Downtown Biloxi and it was definitely running on all cylinders this year.
