Local teams are ranked in the Mississippi AP High School Football Polls


Starkville is the number one ranked team in the Class Overall Poll.  Oak Grove is number 4.  The defending 5A State Champion Picayune Maroon Tide number 5 and Wayne County number 8.

In the Class 5A poll, Picayune (5-0) is number one. Wayne County (5-1) number 3 and Laurel (5-1) number 5.  Picayune will have the home field advantage Friday night hosting Pascagoula (4-2) in a Region 4-5A clash.  The Maroon Tide and Panthers are both 2-0 in Region play tied with Stone (4-2).  The Tomcats travel to Long Beach (0-5) Friday night.

St. Stanislaus remains number one in the Class 4A poll. The Rockachaws (6-0) travel down the road Friday night facing the Bay High Tigers (3-3).  St. Stanislaus and Bay High opened Region 8-4A play last week.  The Rockachaws out slugged Vancleave 60 to 34.  The Tigers defeated Pass Christian 24-13.

The Resurrection Eagles (6-1) are ranked number three in the Class 1A poll.  The Eagles travel to Stringer Friday night looking to improve to 5-1 in the Region 4-1A standings.  Natchez Cathedral (6-0) is ranked number one and beat Resurrection on September 19 in Natchez 27-26.

The Friday Night Football Showdown will air on WLOX-TV Friday night at 10:15 featuring highlights from six games.  At 10:35 you can log on to wlox.com for the Friday Night Football Showdown Post Game Show.  A.J.
