D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - With a historic weekend of college ball behind us, fans are now looking forward. Another weekend of huge games is ahead for the two number three ranked teams in the country. Those teams happen to be Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
What does that mean for bulldog and rebel merchandise? The news broke Sunday that officially put Mississippi on the college football map. State and Ole Miss tied at number three in the AP poll.
"Well, I was kind of shocked, because I thought it was kind of lower than that to start with, but then like, wow, really," said Sidney Malpass.
He knew how big this news was, but he was only shopping for one team's merchandise.
"Yeah, go state," said Malpass.
The people at Sports Shack in D'Iberville are seeing both teams' logos flying off the shelves.
"I think the whole state of Mississippi has prospered from that," said owner, David Thompson.
His store is seeing the benefits from the wins. He and his employees celebrated something that they strive to do all year.
"We beat last year, this day last year, just because of what those teams did," said Thompson.
Those teams made many Mississippians excited to call this state home.
"If you're from Mississippi, you've got to be proud of MS State and Ole Miss for what they've accomplished this past weekend," said Poncho James.
James isn't originally an Ole Miss fan, but rooting for the Rebs is something he plans to do this weekend, but will you see James walking out with a plush rebel doll, or blue and red flag?
"I'm going to support them, but I'm not going to go crazy on y'all," said James. As for Thompson's weekend cheering, he said,
"Oh, it's going to be Hotty Toddy. You know that.
"The Bulldogs take on the number two ranked Auburn Tigers this weekend in Starkville. Over in College Station, the Rebels go head to head with Texas A&M.
