GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Thousands of spectators gathered in downtown Gulfport for a new event on the Cruisin' the Coast schedule, called View the Cruise.

Sunday afternoon, couldn't have presented better weather for the crowd to enjoy the cars.

"I've basically been at every one of them they've had, not registered but been here. It's just a wonderful thing down here for the coast," said Leroy Henny.

Steve Ritchie lives just behind the Island View Casino, and attends Cruisin' every year. For him, the new View the Cruise event was in the perfect location.

"It's great. I mean I hope it gets even bigger, and I hope it lasts for a long time," said Ritchie.

Thousands of car owners, along with pure car enthusiasts have come from near and far to check out what they say are some of the best vehicles ever made.

"All the newer cars are basically somewhat the same. I can see an old car from a ways away and I can tell you what year and what make it is," said Henny.

The beauty of Cruisin' the Coast is that it caters to people of all ages.

"They have a history. They have a story to tell and with new cars they are just brand new. I like old cars because they have a story," said Pate Bounds.

Most of these cars do have a story, like the Austin FX3 London Taxi at the event.

"It was brought to New Orleans in the 50s by a judge, who lived in New Orleans. His wife fell in love with the London taxi so he bought her one, and had it shipped to New Orleans. He drove her around in it until the day she died," said Emma Sheard.

This London Taxi had been to Cruisin' several times even before the new owners purchased it, but when they realized where it had been they knew they would continue to bring it back for years to come.
