MISSISSIPPI SOUND (WLOX) - A Department of Marine Resources vessel sank in the Mississippi Sound on Thursday afternoon. According to officials, The Conservationist was transporting oysters from restricted reefs in Pascagoula over to Biloxi when the vessel hit rough waters.

It happened three miles south of Graveline Bayou around 3 p.m.

DMR Spokesperson Melissa Scallan said the boat began taking on water and sank. Two DMR employees were on board. Both are safe.

DMR is still investigating the exact cause of the incident.
