D'Iberville police investigating telephone credit card scam

D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - D'Iberville Police Chief Wayne Payne wants to alert the public to a telephone credit card scam that is making its rounds on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Lt. Marty Griffin said the department started receiving complaints about the scam on Monday.

Payne said a man identifying himself as Detective Bill Collins, with the D'Iberville Police Department, is contacting victims and claiming he is investigating credit card fraud. Collins tells the victims he needs their names and credit card information for the investigation.

Payne said there is no Detective Bill Collins working at the D'Iberville Police Department.

Authorities urge you to not give out personal information over the telephone and to report suspicious phone calls to the police immediately.
