Biloxi woman remembered at candlelight vigil

The biking and running community held a candlelight vigil for one of its own Wednesday evening. The vigil was held at the corner of Highway 90 and Beauvoir Road. That is the area where 63-year-old Marie Brandenberg was hit by a vehicle as she crossed the road with her bike on September 23rd. She later died in the hospital.

Family, friends and the Gulf Coast Bicycle and Gulf Coast Running Clubs gathered to remember the Biloxi woman. Those who knew Brandenberg said the day she died, she followed correct safety measures. That's why President of the Gulf Coast Running Club Nancy Phillips said the vigil also served as a way to remind runners and bikers to continue practicing safety and be aware of their surroundings.

"She activated the light. She was wearing her helmet. She was walking her bike across the road, but even when we do things exactly the way were supposed to do it accidents happen and so we're here tonight to remember her," said Nancy Phillips. Phillips also said Brandenberg shared her passion for fitness and exercise with everyone she met.

Biloxi police are still investigation Brandenberg's death.
