Gulfport Admirals senior quarterback Richaud Floyd was instrumental in leading Gulfport past St. Martin 42-24 in Friday's Region 4-6A opener.
Floyd, a Missouri commitment, rushed for 245 yards and bagged 4 touchdowns.
The Admirals dual-threat quarterback added 117 yards passing and one TD, a 60 yard connection to Jonathan Nance.
Floyd is the Mississippi Power Player of the Week.
Floyd said,"The line blocked their butts off and they really opened up the holes for me and the other running backs.We really shocked St. Martin. Came out with a lot of intensity and we came out playing fast."
Through six games, Floyd has 610 yards rushing, netting 9.8 yards a carry with 8 touchdowns.
He's thrown for 596 yards, 6 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.
Coach Eddie Pierce said,"He's getting a little more comfortable every week at quarterback. Our wide outs blocked well. They caught the ball well. I thought they did a great job. I thought the coaches did a great job in getting them prepared."
The 3 and 3 Admirals entertain arch-rival Harrison Central Friday night at 7. The 4 and 2 Red Rebels have lost two straight games.
"We definitely like to have the bragging rights going into the other sports such as basketball and track and we talk to them a lot," stated Floyd.
Gulfport has beaten Harrison Central 4 straight years and have won 8 of the last 10 games.
