JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - We won't know until October whether a 6-year-old boy who survived a horrific car wreck in Jackson County earlier this week will be able to return to California with his family.

Ricky Hodson III's father, his father's fiancé and their 20-month-old daughter, all of Tulare, CA, were killed when their vehicle rear-ended an 18-wheeler on Interstate 10 Wednesday night.

Ricky was the only survivor in the vehicle.

He was taken into the custody of the Department of Human Services.

His grandmother, Yolonda Weece Allen, met with DHS caseworkers Saturday to discuss seeing the child.

She says she hopes to see the boy in the coming days, but won't know whether she will be able to take him home to California until after a hearing on Oct. 6.

Allen has set up an account at to help cover the expenses of the trips from California to Mississippi and the costs to ship her family's bodies back home.
