GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A Gulfport home is severely damaged following an afternoon fire on Thursday. According, Gulfport Fire Chief Michael Beyerstedt the fire started at around 2:30 p.m. at 104 Arthur Court in the Bel-Aire subdivision in Gulfport.

Beyerstedt says a teen was studying on the front porch when he smelled smoke. He went inside the home and found a bed on fire. Using a blanket he tried to put it out, however the fire continued, the chief said.

That's when the teen ran to a neighbors house and called 911. Four Gulfport fire engineers and a ladder truck were used to put out the fire.

The fire chief says the family who lives at the home, will not be able to stay there Thursday night. No injuries were reported and investigators are trying to find out what started the fire on the bed.
