PEARL RIVER COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - This Saturday the Pearl River County Sheriff's Department will take part in the nationwide, "Prescription Drug Take Back Event".
That means anyone can dispose of controlled, non-controlled and over the counter medications to the Carriere Volunteer Fire Department on Highway 11 across from PRC School from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Deputies will be accepting prescription drugs in both solid and liquid form with or without the prescription bottle.
According to the Pearl River County Sheriff's Department, most teens who abuse prescription drugs get them from family or friends who have them in excess. The sheriff's department encourages those that have unused or expired prescription medications to attend so that these medications can be disposed of properly. Unused prescription drugs thrown in the trash can be retrieved and consumed or sold and flushing the medications is not suggested.
Prescription Drug Take Back is coordinated by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration on September 27, 2014.
