PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -
The Coastal Conservation Association of Mississippi will team up Saturday with the City of Pascagoula to host the 8th annual Casting for Conservation kids fishing rodeo.
The event, for kids between the ages of five and 13, will be held at the Beach Park Pier and begins with a registration from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and fishing ends at noon.
The focus will be on teaching kids to string a rod, tie basic knots, cast, how to properly release fish and being safe on the water at all times. All participating anglers must be accompanied by an adult.
Kids will be allowed to bring their own fishing gear or gear will be available as well as bait and terminal tackle. In terms of fishing, the free-to-fish event will practice catch-and-release on all species caught.
Also on hand will be the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources in Biloxi and the Gulf Coast Research Lab in Ocean Springs.
