STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi State junior quarterback Dak Prescott was named Southeastern Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while senior offensive lineman Ben Beckwith was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week, the league announced Monday. The honors marked the first time in school history MSU was awarded with both accolades in the same week.
Prescott, who was named Athlon Sports' National Player of the Week Sunday, accounted for 373 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in a 34-29 win at No. 8 LSU this past Saturday. In leading the Maroon and White to its first win against a top-10 team on the road since 1986, Prescott finished with 268 yards and two passing touchdowns through the air, as well as 105 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Going up against the No. 3 defense in the country statistically, Prescott recorded a 89.9 quarterback rating according to ESPN Stats & Info, the second-highest against LSU in the last 10 years. The award was the first offensive player of the week honor for MSU since Tyler Russell picked up the nod on Nov. 19, 2012.
Beckwith became the first former walk-on to earn SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week in school history. The Benton, Miss., native led an offensive line which racked up 302 yards rushing on the ground and provided protection for 570 yards of total offense, the most allowed by LSU since prior to 2005 (Les Miles era). Beckwith tallied five knockdowns. Thanks to his efforts, MSU recorded its first victory in Tiger Stadium since 1991.
