JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A routine traffic stop in Jackson County early Wednesday morning netted a Louisiana man and a Pascagoula woman suspected in two burglaries in Florida. Sheriff Charles Britt said the stop was initiated after a deputy saw a pickup truck swerving on Interstate 10 around 2 a.m.
Britt said James Carl Norred, 28, of Hammond, LA, was driving the truck with a Sea-Doo reported stolen out of Okaloosa County, FL, in tow. Officials said Jessica Lynn Norred, 28, and a young child were passengers in the vehicle.
Britt said Jessica was surrounded by numerous items including framed artwork and flat screen TVs, which had labels on them from a Pensacola, FL, hotel.
"A quick call to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office revealed the items were stolen from the hotel," said Britt. "This was just a routine traffic stop that led our investigators to helping out two different sheriff's offices and solving two out-of-state crimes."
Britt said Jessica and James are being held at the Jackson County Jail awaiting extradition to Florida where they will face burglary charges. He also said the State Department of Human Services took the child.
James is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. That charge carries a sentence of 10 years behind bars and a $10,000 fine if convicted.
