BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Treasure Bay Casino is operating once again after it was briefly evacuated Monday evening following a power surge.
General Manager Susan Varnes tells us it's unclear what caused the power spike, but power temporarily went down, while they moved to generator power. In the brief window where the power was out, some electronic systems that the casino is required to have by the Mississippi Gaming Commission in order to operate went down. The casino floor had to be closed while Gaming Commission officials and Treasure Bay employees worked to get those systems back up and running.
Customers told WLOX they were asked to leave the casino floor while the issue was being looked at. Witnesses on the scene say they were briefly asked to wait outside, before the casino employees told them they could go back inside the building, but not onto the casino floor.
At 9:45pm Treasure Bay officials told WLOX the systems had been repaired and the casino floor was reopened.
