Brian Ducharme said,"We started working with coach Whitehead about three years ago doing CrossFit type training here at St. Martin. The Kids have really responded to it and I think it has helped them tremendously."
He added, "A lot of times you may look at an old school football program and they focus on strength a lot. Maybe springs and different things. We do try to focus on all the elements of fitness which would be strength, balance, agility, endurance, stamina. You know trying to hit every element of fitness."
"A lot times CrossFit is a very short workout," stated Ducharme. "Sometimes we'll have things that last up to 30 minutes, but typically we're talking about 15 to 20 minutes at the most.My job here as a volunteer is to make sure that these guys are strong throughout the full range of motion of every joint. That's what I'm trying to do. To insure that they statistically have a better chance that they won't get injured. I want them to be able to play the game they love to play."
Ducharme says St. Martin football players are beginning to display that the Cross Fit program is working, "We've seen a better trained athlete, a stronger athlete, a faster athlete and another thing that we tell them is...if you've got gas in your tank and the other guy runs out of gas, he's Mr., then you can have your way with him."
