BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Some concerned citizens thwarted an auto burglary attempt at a Biloxi McDonald's late Friday night, according to authorities. Biloxi Police Investigator Steve Schlicht said 30-year-old Shawn Wayne Etheridge, of Marion, MS, was charged with burglary of an auto following the incident.

Schlicht said a McDonald's patron witnessed Etheridge walking through the parking lot of the restaurant on Eisenhower Drive before entering her vehicle and stealing her purse.

According to authorities, the owner of the purse and several other witnesses left the restaurant as Etheridge was getting out of the vehicle. Schlicht said that is when Etheridge took off running.

Police say Etheridge ran a short distance before he was detained by the witnesses until law enforcement could arrive.

Schlicht said further investigation revealed Etheridge was also wanted by the Clarke County Sheriff's Office in Quitman, MS, for burglary.

According to authorities, Etheridge is being held at the Harrison County Jail on a $25,000 bond along with a hold request from the Clarke County Sheriff's Office.
