SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Democratic United States Senate nominee Travis Childers has challenged incumbent Republican Sen. Thad Cochran to a series of debates.
Childers, who served previously in the House of Representatives, made a stop Wednesday in South Mississippi on his statewide tour.
"Today, I'm standing on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, on the campus of the University of South Mississippi, asking Sen. Cochran to join me in a debate here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast," Childers said. "We have proposed that we have a minimum of four debates, one in each congressional district."
Childers proposed debates in Oxford, the Delta, Jackson and in South Mississippi at the USM Gulf Coast campus.
Childers said he wants the Cochran campaign to let voters in the state see the front runners together on the same stage. The Cochran campaign has not officially responded to the offer to debate Childers.
