GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Several small businesses in downtown Gulfport will soon be receiving the help they need to be successful. The Main Street Association is offering around 10 businesses a portion of $15,000 through a grant program.
Small businesses are encouraged to enter through an application process explaining how they could use the money. Each business selected could receive up to $2,500 each. Main Street Executive Director Lisa Bradley said this is the first time the association has been able to offer such a program.
"Right now, we've got some tremendous young, small businesses in downtown Gulfport that we really want to put our arms around and make them understand that we're here to support them, and we want to see them all survive. We don't want to lose a single one of them," said Bradley.
The money for the grant program was saved over a couple of years through fundraisers and other events. Bradley said that small businesses are important to the city.
"You know they're all so special and they all make downtown Gulfport what [it is]. This is just a way for us to make sure we're nurturing what we've grown from the beginning," said Bradley.
The deadline to submit an application is Sept. 19. For more information on how to submit, email Lisa Bradley at email@example.com.
