HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A Moss Point man will spend the next 17 years behind bars after he pleaded guilty to felony child abuse in Harrison County on Wednesday. District Attorney Joel Smith said 30-year-old Terry Lee Seaman's case was set to go to trial when he decided to enter the guilty plea.

Smith said Seaman was arrested in 2012 after Long Beach Police were called to Memorial Hospital where a 5-month-old infant was being treated for fractures in one leg and both arms. Doctors determined the injuries were not accidental.

Smith said investigators determined Seaman left the infant in his car while the child's mother was at work. When the mother returned home from work, she found bruises on the child and rushed the infant to the emergency room.

Smith said Seaman told police he had dropped the child once on the floor, but doctors said the injuries were consistent with a car crash. Smith said Seaman told Harrison County Circuit Court Judge Roger Clark that he was on drugs at the time of the crime, and could not remember much.

Smith said the child made a full recovery from the injuries.

After Seaman is released from prison, he will be placed on probation for five years.
