Prostate screenings during Prostate Cancer Awareness month

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A man with prostate cancer has a 1 in 6 – 8 chance of dying from the disease, and nearly 88 American men die from it every day, according to the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Education, early diagnosis, and treatment are all key factors in survival. Many locations across South Mississippi will be offering free screenings throughout the month.

On Tuesday, September, 16 at 6:30 p.m., Memorial Hospital at Gulfport will offer free prostate screenings and educational materials. The screening will consist of a physical exam. After the exam, the physical may refer you to your primary care physician for a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test at a later date. Appointments are limited. Registration is required. For more information, or to register, call (228) 575-2250.

The following are sponsored by Garden Park Medical Center and The Gulf Coast Patient Wellness Foundation. Pre-registration for these events is not required. For more information, call 228-872-7618.
