PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

Pascagoula is preparing to close its jail at the police department next month.

Police Chief Kenny Johnson said Monday the city has signed an interlocal cooperation agreement with Jackson County to house its inmates at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center in October.

Johnson said the city's jail is old and outdated, and instead of spending millions on upgrades and more money to run the facility, the city will spend $35 a day to house the inmates at the county jail.
