SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -
WLOX News has just learned that Scott Walker will be able to spend the Thanksgiving holiday as a free man. According to court documents, a federal judge granted Walker's request to push back the date that he must report to prison to serve his 18 month sentence for his part in the DMR corruption scandal.
According to the documents, Walker's original reporting date was Sept. 9, 2014. He will now have to report to federal prison before noon on Dec. 1, 2014.
The judge decided to grant the extension due to medical appointments Walker must attend after he broke his back in a small plane crash in March of 2011.
A court document filed earlier this week included recommendation letters from Walker's doctors. Those letters provided medical reasons as to why the extension is needed.
The judge also ruled the medical tests would be a burden on the government if they had to be performed after Walker was incarcerated.
