VANCLEAVE, MS (WLOX) -

Muscadine grapes are ripe for the picking at Boggy Creek Vineyard in Vancleave. Folks come from miles around to pick their own grapes at the three acre vineyard.

Dr. Jack Hoover opened Boggy Creek back in the late 1970s. He offers five varieties of muscadines. Each one fills a specific need.

"We ask people what they want to do with the grapes. They might be looking for table grapes or to make wine or jelly. We'll direct them to the appropriate variety," said Hoover.

Late August and early September of every year people put a trip to Boggy Creek on their schedules. The muscadine is a perfect fruit for the climate and soil here in the Southeast.

The vineyard, on Paige Bayou Road in Vancleave, will remain open for the next few weeks.

On Sept. 13, everyone is invited out for what's called the harvest celebration. All kinds of family friendly activities are planned for that day at Boggy Creek Vineyard.
