Scott Walker asks for 120 day delay before reporting to prison

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Former Ocean Springs mayoral candidate and businessman Scott Walker was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison in July after pleading guilty to fraud and conspiracy charges linked to the Department of Marine Resources corruption scandal.

On Wednesday, attorneys for Walker filed papers in federal court asking that he remain free for another 120 days to undergo medical treatment. Walker broke his back in a small plane crash in March of 2011 and has undergone two major surgeries since that accident.

Walker's attorney claims he needs until January of 2015 to complete medical care and evaluations that will prevent medical problems during his incarceration.

Walker is scheduled to report for his sentence on Sept. 9.
