Fans Give Greyhounds Championship Sendoff

The music was right and the fire was bright as hundreds of people gathered at Ocean Springs High School to give their winning football team a send-off party fit for champions.

"I'm excited because we're going to the championship. We're gonna win. And these kids have worked hard and they deserve it. Go Greyhounds!" said assistant principal Dr. Scherrine Davenport.

"I am so excited. I am so ready for them to just take state," said senior Sarah Linshaw.

The Greyhound party was complete with a bonfire and a bit of a pep rally as the football team prepares to take on South Panola on Friday night.

"I'm very excited. Very excited. It feels good," said students Monica Fields and Patrice Coleman.

The excitement, along with the party, eventually moved into the cafeteria where fans as well as members of the Greyhounds football team watched WLOX's special report "A Sprint To The Finish".

The football team is simply overwhelmed by all of the community support.

"Just the support is great. You know what I mean? Them being behind us 100%, you know it's great. It's unexplainable. And just them being there every game behind us, just pumps us up even more you know," said OSHS football player Justin Jones.

"We've been wanting this for a long time. You know we worked hard last year and this year, we wanted it even more," said OSHS football player Eric Steele.

Many people want to see this title come to Ocean Springs.

Hopefully, they'll get it.

"I think that South Panola and the teams from the North are used to a running game, and I don't think they've seen quite the style of offense that we're gonna bring to them and the speed we're gonna bring. I think we're gonna surprise a lot of folks when we come up tomorrow night," said assistant principal David Baggett.

The Greyhounds will face the South Panola Tigers Friday night at 7:30 in Jackson.

And of course, WLOX Sports will bring you all of the highlights.
