JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The search is over for the missing Mississippi 17-year-old at the center of the weekend Amber Alert.

Katelyn Beard's body was found Tuesday before noon, off of Darden road, near the scene of a morning search.

The coroner said her body had been dumped for at least two days, and she was shot in the head.

Jackson Police Chief Lee Vance says drugs could have played a role in her death.

Beard is from Greene County, and her parents are in route to Jackson.

Dewayne Thompson was taken into custody on Monday, just a few blocks away from a home where police say the teen was shot Sunday morning.

He is being charged with capital murder, along with aggravated assault, kidnapping, and auto theft.

Vance could not confirm Thompson's criminal past.

Monday night, Thompson was seen leading officers around a field in the Pocahontas area.

Crews returned to the scene on Joe Coker road to continue the search Tuesday morning.

Beard was abducted Sunday morning between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. from 4244 Lynda Street in Jackson.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert for Beard on Sunday night.
