Mississippi State dominated Southern Miss 49-0

STARKVILLE, MS (WLOX) - Quarterback Dak Prescott tied a Mississippi State record with a career-high four touchdown passes. The junior completed 18 of 26 attempts for a career-high 284 yards and one interception.

Prescott said,"Doing what we knew we could within our program within our offense and just getting better, getting better at the small things and doing things right. I think we're headed in the right direction."

The Southern Miss defense gave up 550 yards to the balanced Bulldogs offensive attack.

Running back Josh Robinson piled up 87 yards on 14 attempts, netting 6.2 yards per carry and a host of receivers found success including sophomore receiver Fred Ross who snagged two touchdowns.

Despite the lopsided victory Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen gave a thumbs up to Southern Miss head coach Todd Monken's and his Golden Eagles.

"We're probably a couple of years ahead of them in our program right now from the program he's building."stated Mullen.

"But you can see that they're going to have a great future in what they're doing down there at Southern Miss."

Sophomore quarterback Nick Mullens was pressured throughout the game by a rock solid Bulldogs defense that posted their first shutout since beating South Carolina 17 to nothing in September of 1999.

Senior defensive lineman Preston Smith came up with his first career interception.

Smith said,"We just try to keep in our mind that we were going to keep on playing sound defense and not let up and try to keep them off the board."

As expected Mississippi State dominated Southern Miss 49 to nothing. Next season on September 5, 2015 Mississippi State will travel to Hattiesburg.
