OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Coast Young Professionals held its annual walking on water event Saturday morning. People in the giving spirit were invited to walk the Ocean Springs Bridge and donate canned food items. Hundreds came out to drop off goods, even if they didn't want to walk.
The donated food benefited the Loaves and Fishes food pantry in Biloxi.
Christen Duhe was in charge of the walk and said food drives like this one should be happening year round.
"Food pantries along our Mississippi Gulf Coast are always in need, not just at holidays. And so this is one of those things, and after Katrina we all needed help, we all needed food. And it's just to remind us that we help each other," Duhe said. "After Katrina, we needed a lot of help from outside of the community and it's always nice to give back within your community, so that's what we're trying to do here."
The annual walk started a few years after Hurricane Katrina roared through the Gulf Coast as a testament to the resilience that coast residents have.
