SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - To open carry or not to open carry? That was the loaded question a year ago this weekend in Mississippi. It's been one year since the controversial open-carry gun law went into effect in our state and there have been no major issues since that time.
The law was supposed to go into effect July first of last year, but an injunction from a Hinds County judge put that law on hold for almost two months. They called the law "unconstitutionally vague." The state Supreme Court overturned that injunction, saying the law is in line with the Mississippi Constitution.
We checked with several coast law enforcement agencies who tell us their departments haven't had any major issues regarding the open carry law. The author of the law, State Representative Andy Gipson, said that's pretty much the same story across the state.
