HATTIESBURG, MS (WLOX) - The Lucile Parker Gallery at William Carey University hosted an opening reception for the South Mississippi Art Association's "Juried Exhibition of Watercolors, Oils, and Acrylics" on August 28.
The exhibition includes 36 works by 20 artists. Kim Whitt's painting, "Along the Path," won Best in Show, with Cheryl Beasley's "Morning Reflection" winning Best Oil Painting. Sheri Hoem's "Angel Trumpet No. 3" won Best Acrylic Painting and Jo-Ann Adams won Best Watercolor Painting for her "Spiderwort Jungle" piece.
The exhibit will be on display until September 16 at the Parker Gallery, located at 512 Tuscan Avenue in Hattiesburg. Gallery hours are 1 until 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.
Many of the pieces on display are for sale.
SMAA's mission is to seek out and foster the artistic talents of South Mississippi. The organization sponsors exhibitions to promote public interest and appreciation of the arts. The group seeks to find a permanent home to collect and preserve work in order to elevate and educate public taste and promote enjoyment of the arts.
