Post Katrina play in South Mississippi

Hundreds of South Mississippi children have had a place to play in the years since Hurricane Katrina devastated the coast thanks to KaBOOM! and its thousands of volunteers who came to the region to build new playgrounds.

In Mississippi alone the group, through Operation Playground, built 49 playgrounds between 2005 and 2010.  In those years KaBOOM! reports 12,415 volunteers participated in the playground builds. According to KaBOOM!, more than 107 thousand volunteer hours went toward this Katrina recovery effort.

The playgrounds were not just built in Mississippi, but also, in other gulf states Katrina impacted. All total KaBOOM! built more than 140 playgrounds. The first of the playgrounds was built just months after Katrina in Bay St. Louis on December 17, 2005.

Emergency teams determined an empty rail car was the source of that leak. They tell WLOX News Now they contacted Chevron officials to make the necessary repairs.
