RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The cheerleaders' uniforms at Northwest Rankin High School do not fit with the school's dress code. Administrators say they are too short.

The Rankin County School District says Northwest Rankin's principal made the decision this week that cheerleaders can still wear their uniforms at pep rallies and football games, but the students will be required to wear leggings or pants under the dress while they are in class.

"There are dress code policies there, and you know, I think the administration is trying to look at both sides and come up with a compromise there, respecting all students and all parents, and sometimes that's tough to do," said Rankin County School District Assistant Superintendent Richard Morrison.

Morrison says other organizations also have uniforms that violate the school's dress code, like track and field.
